Tim Shiel "Fleeting" is really haunting, it particularly reminds me of Portishead, tense chords and rhythms never truly finding release. An under-the-radar gem. Favorite track: Fleeting.

Modus Op's debut LP is a collection of tracks from 2010-2013. These seemingly disparate pieces represent a love for many subgenres of electronic, beat-based music, and a fascination with digital technologies.

Throughout the densely compacted 35-minutes, you'll find hints and nods to artists as diverse as Mount Kimbie, Squarepusher and Teebs. The approach to production on this album is as varied as the influences: sometimes purely sequenced within a Digital Audio Workstation, sometimes with elements sampled with noise-inducing sub-par equipment. Despite the diversity in technical approach, the use of acoustic instruments (piano, drums), and the solemn yet efflorescent atmosphere, keep it tied together. These pieces begin a search for new acoustic/digital relations for the new year. and beyond.
